Day 2 – Blisters & Energy

3 06 2010

So today marks my 2nd day of training as per the training schedule that was handed out. I did 30 minutes of the walk/jog interval around the Ala Moana Beach Park. I couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better atmosphere to train. It really helped to have runners on the trails and sidewalks motivating me to pick up the pace.

Since I’ve started training, I’ve noticed a *huge* difference in my energy levels, in that I have MORE of it!!! A welcome change from when I first started treatment and felt like all I could do was sleep and veg out on the couch, watching reruns of my favorite shows. Sometimes I would find myself not even watching, and just spacing out, or sometimes just crying. Crying for the “normalcy” that I’ve lost, the health that I’ve lost, and for fear of what is to come. But I’m in a much better place now as far as my condition and my personal acceptance of my life as it is now. Some people are probably saying, “Well, she’s obviously not THAT sick if she’s training for a marathon.” The first thing I’d say to that is “Thank God.” Thank God that I am ABLE to train for a marathon, that I am ABLE to live a relatively normal life, that I am ABLE to live. Some cancer patients would give anything to trade places with me, and I’m training for THEM – to give them hope for a cure, rather than sit back and benefit from the efforts of those who have relentlessly dedicated their time to raise funds for the research that resulted in my current treatment, the treatment that is keeping me alive.

As I was winding down after my feeble attempt to jog the last couple of minutes of my workout, Karen from Dr. Loui’s office called and said, “Hey, I don’t think we scheduled next month’s follow up!” Good thing they are on top of things at that office because I totally forgot! So my next visit is July 6, and am hoping to hear good news about my FISH test.

OK – am totally beat from today, and not handling the abdominal pains I’ve been feeling lately. Apparently it’s a listed side effect of Sprycel, so will definitely bring it up at my next doctor’s visit! So am turning in for tonight!! Thanks again for tuning in!! Hope to hear from you, and if you’re interested, stop by my TNT Homepage to make a secure donation online to our cause!

Thanks and Love
